Normal Blood Sugar Levels

What are normal blood sugar levels? Do you know what is a blood sugar test? Why do we need normal blood sugar levels?

These are all valid questions which we should ask ourselves in this day and age. With the increasing number of people being identified with type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance, we need to know how to maintain normal blood sugar levels. It is also vital that we all learn what are the diabetes signs and symptoms in order to be able to identify and treat the disease early. Early treatment of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes can potentially lead to cure and reversal of the insulin resistance.

Normal blood sugar levels are basically a range of blood sugar levels in which our bodies can comfortably tolerate without any pathological changes. However, in insulin resistance, this maintenance of normal blood sugar level (or also known as blood sugar homeostasis) is loss. The resultant effect of high blood sugar levels in our blood will cause harm to our bodies in the long run. Diseases such as heart disease, kidney failure, blindness and slow-healing foot ulcers will begin to affect the person who has long term higher-than-normal blood sugar levels.

It's not important for non-diabetics to know the exact values of normal blood sugar levels. However, it is important for all of us to be able to identify diabetes signs and symptoms early on, before we suffer the health consequences of long term high blood sugar levels.

So, what are the diabetes signs and symptoms that we should watch out for?

1. Frequent, large volume urination.
2. Urge to urinate in the middle of the night. This is especially important if you are waking up more than twice each night to urinate.
3. Frequently feeling thirsty irregardless of your physical activity levels.
4. Feeling tired and lethargic even though you have had adequate sleep and you are not doing anything abnormally stressful.
5. Falling sick many times lately or contracting new infections which are less common in other people, such as yeast infection of the genitalia.
6. Feeling pins and needles or diminished sensation in the hands and feet which does not seem to get better.

These are the more common diabetes signs and symptoms which we should watch out for. These diabetes signs and symptoms are often not significant if they appear in isolation or in the short term. However, if you have been experiencing two or more of these diabetes signs and symptoms for a few months already, then it's important that you get a blood sugar test to verify that you have normal blood sugar levels. Do not be afraid to express your concerns to your doctor.
